Goof: During Michael’s escape from Smith’s Grove, he uses his hand to crack the glass of the car window. As he brings his hand down, you can clearly see the wrench.
Goof: While Dr. Loomis’ is on the phone with Haddonfield Police, you can see mountains in the background. There are no mountains like that in the state of Illinois.
Continuity: As Laurie is walking home from school there are several shots that take place in a matter of seconds where the ground goes from dry to wet and cloudy to sunny.
Goof: The living room in the Wallace house (where Lynda and Bob make out on the couch) is to the right of the front door. In reality there is no room on that side as the door is against the right wall.
Goof: As Bob and Lynda drive up to the Wallace house you can clearly see the 1970’s California tags on the front of the van. The film takes place in Illinois and tag colors are not blue.
Goof: As Laurie is crouching down in front of the couch, you can see the curtains are blowing in the background. You can also see the fan that was being used to simulate the wind.
Goof: Right after Tommy opens to door for Laurie, she tells them to go upstairs and she turns off the lights. You can clearly see the switches are already in the down position before she swipes them.
Continuity: Right before the credits, when possible locations of Myers are being cycled, the knife is back in the living room of the Doyle House. Myers took the knife upstairs with him.
Goof: When Laurie is trapped in the kitchen, you can clearly see which panel of (break away) glass Laurie is going to bust out in order to remove the rake blocking the door.
Continuity: After the boys trip Tommy Doyle they all run off to the left of the frame. When the camera cuts away, only 2 boys are running left and Richie is coming at the camera.
Goof: Even though Haddonfield is set in Illinois, Carpenter filmed Halloween in Southern California. During a few scenes you can clearly see palm trees in the background.
Continuity: When Laurie is dropped off at the Doyle house, you can see there are glass panels on the front door. All subsequent shots show the front door as solid wood.
Goof: During the scene when Annie is telling Laurie that no one is behind the bush, you can clearly see John Carpenter’s cigarette smoke glide across the screen from left to right.
Goof: During the scene when Lyndsey Wallace is sitting on the couch watching TV, the camera pans around to reveal a crew member ducking behind the couch.
Continuity: When Loomis & Brackett are in the Myers house, the gutter breaks & smashes through the window. In the very last shot you can see that the gutter is intact & the window is not broken.
Continuity: As Myers walks around the Wallace house carrying Annie, her head is on the left side of his body. When they cut back from Doyle’s reaction her head is now on the right side.
Continuity: In Annie’s death scene, Myers pulls out a knife and slashes at her neck. Yet no mark or blood. Later when Laurie finds her body, you can see her throat was cut.
Plot: Loomis was standing in front of the Myers house all night and didn’t notice the stolen station wagon behind him? Myers didn’t have time to move it there and he would have heard it pull up.
Goof: During the scene when Bob and Lynda walk towards the camera to head upstairs, you can clearly see Lynda trips over the camera cable on the floor.
Continuity: When Laurie is banging on the door you can see there is no door knob or deadbolt. When they cut inside, Tommy unlocks a deadbolt and there is a door knob.
Continuity: As Laurie escapes out the back of the Wallace house she runs out towards the right side of the door. In the next scene, she is running around the left side of the house.
